The Weekend Buffet Feast — forty metres of Queensland produce

The service

A produce tour that happens to be a buffet

The feast is built around what the markets gave us that week: king prawns and Moreton Bay bugs on ice, the carving board running the same dry-aged beef as the tasting menu, charcoal sections grilling through the sitting, and a dessert table that is quietly the reason half the bookings exist. Nothing waits under heat lamps — the grill and carving sections cook to the room.

The seafood section restocks through the sitting rather than being laid out once. The carving board pours its juices at the board. Dietary needs are handled at the door — the kitchen walks gluten-free and dairy-free guests through the safe sections personally, and the kids' station is built at their height with food they'll actually eat.

The experience

Two sittings, two entirely different nights

The 11:30 sitting runs at long-lunch pace: the terrace opens, an acoustic set plays from noon, kids are welcome until three and nobody minds if the meal takes three hours. The 18:00 sitting is the adult version — the grill section doubles, the cellar list comes upstairs and the night can roll onto the gaming floor downstairs.

Both sittings run two hours at the table with the room turning over once between them. Groups of ten or more get the long table by the courtyard doors; high chairs and the kids' station are standard at every sitting.

"It's a Queensland produce tour that happens to be a buffet. Three plates of the bugs, a carving board that kept coming, and kids who had to be carried out of the dessert room."
